The Practice
We provide comprehensive care for an urban
population of over 9500 patients. Our philosophy is
to maintain a high standard of medical practice but
to take care of our personal lives as well. We are a
forward looking practice that has and is undergoing
a continuous process of change, since gaining
approval as a Training Practice in July 2000. In
April 2001 we became a third wave PMS pilot
practice. We have moved towards a Nurse led service
for acute problems and chronic disease management.
We now employ three Nurse Practitioners and two
Practice Nurses. The practice buildings are modern
purpose built premises which have been extended
recently.
The Partners
Between us we have diverse skills and expertise.
One of the partners has an MSc in Medical Sciences,
another is a GP with a special interest in
musculoskeletal medicine and works at the
musculoskeletal assessment and treatment (MAT)
clinic at the Riverside clinic, and another was
involved in setting up the GP Out of Hours
Co-operative and is one of the Programme Directors
of the Ipswich General Practice Vocational Training
Scheme. We are fortuitous in having a very capable
and enthusiastic Practice Manager as well as
excellent Nursing, Administrative, Secretarial, and
Reception staff.
The Patients
The practice covers an urban area which
incorporates a diverse spectrum of society and the
attendant medical, social and psychological
problems.
The Training
David Ward is the nominated Trainer but we are
keen to emphasise that all of us will be involved in
training to some extent. Teaching and supervision
will occur daily and there are regular practice
educational meetings usually held on a Wednesday
afternoon. Formal tutorials are weekly, the subjects
are very much decided mutually by the Trainee and
Trainer. The practice also is involved in training
paramedics, nurse practitioners, medical students,
as well as GP Trainees. Some of the teaching and
learning will be multidisciplinary; the development
of all of our staff is a central part of our ethos
there will be the opportunity to find out about the
business side of General Practice.
Yourself
We will provide an environment which encourages
and is suitable for you to learn the skills needed
to be a ?good General Practitioner?. In return we
expect a commitment from you to learn, and, if you
want to, to participate in the development of the
practice. Why not come and see for yourself!
