Facilities for Acute Stroke Care on a dedicated
ward.
There is open access to the full range of diagnostic
facilities including MRI, CT and nuclear imaging and
all routine biochemistry, haematology and pathology
services on site.
Staffing:
a) There are six
consultants who share some duties. Five
Consultants participate in the non-selected
acute medical admissions rota. The department
has additional interests in stroke care,
continence, Parkinson?s Disease, clinical
pharmacology and diabetes.

SHO x 4 (one VTS/three rotate with General
Medicine)
HO x 4
Experience Available:
a) Clinical:
The majority of acute admissions are arranged
through the General Practitioner and all common
acute medical disorders are dealt with. The post
provides excellent training in acute care with
additional experience in Outpatients, Day
Hospital, rehabilitation and multidisciplinary
team working.
b) Educational:
The Hospital provides twice weekly postgraduate
educational meetings, a monthly audit session
(whole afternoon) during which there is a
Journal Club and MRCP teaching. Additional MRCP
teaching is on a Friday afternoon.
The Department runs a series of weekly seminars
on topics of particular relevance to elderly
care in addition to weekly lunchtime case
presentations/visiting speakers, etc.
