The hospital also has
fully staffed departments of neurology, nephrology,
oncology, haematology, dermatology, rheumatology,
haematology, and elderly medicine. It is likely VTS

specialities as part of their work on the
department.
Experience available
a) Clinical
In each department you have opportunities to
gain in- and out- patient experience and will
take part in the acute unselected medical take
where you will be based in the purpose built
acute medical unit working with the acute
medical team. We have been able to preserve a
degree of team working when on call and you will
always be part of a team consisting of a
resident SpR, ST and FY2 trainees and a
consultant on call. You will be expected to
present cases on the twice daily consultant led
post take ward rounds.
There is open access to full diagnostic imaging
facilities including CT, MRI, a cardiac catheter
lab and nuclear imaging with all biochemical,
haematology and pathology services on site.
b) Educational
There are a number of educational sessions held
each week: a hospital grand round, a
departmental case presentation meeting, and MRCP
teaching (to which you are welcome). In addition
there is a monthly audit session. Several
departments also run their own speciality
education sessions/case presentations usually at
lunchtime.
