All trainees are required to take the nMRCGP and this is now the exit assessment for GP training. Throughout the 3 years the trainees have to undertake regular assessments by their clinical supervisor/trainer. This is called workplace based assessment and is recorded in the e-portfolio. In addition 2 external assessments are undertaken during the final year these are the applied knowledge test (AKT) and clinical skills assessment (CSA).

Details of how to register with the royal college of general practitioners and all the assessment procedures are on the college website at  www.rcgp.org.uk
