The Trainer
Dr Susan Smith
The Practice
The practice works from purpose-built premises in
the North-West of Ipswich. The premises have
recently been extended and updated, including
brand-new, spacious rooms for trainer and registrar.
There is a large, dedicated teaching room, with
library, computer terminals, Powerpoint and video
facilities. We serve a patient population of 9,500,
with a diverse ethnic mix and including a full
cross-section of socio-economic groups. There are
seven doctors, two nurse practitioners, a large
nursing team and a welcoming, supportive staff. The
practice is well-organised and we aim to provide a
high standard of medical care for all.
The Teaching
There is a strong interest and tradition of teaching
at Norwich Road. Over the last 4 years, we have been
teaching a first-year medical student group from UEA
and we also support nursing students, as well as
regularly taking work-experience students. Every
member of the practice team is involved with, and
supportive of, the teaching. The registrar training
is well-structured and is based around the
registrar's needs. All the partners are involved in
after-surgery teaching, which takes place each
morning throughout the year. Multidisciplinary
clinical meetings, which take place fortnightly, add
another dimension.
